The son of a British diplomat, Daniel Carney was born in Beirut in 1944. He grew up in the Far East and was educated in England. He travelled extensively throughout the world before settling in Rhodesia in 1963, where he joined the British South Africa Police. After 3-1/2 years' service, much of which was spent in remote areas of Rhodesia, he resigned to take up a business career in Real Estate Property Development.

Daniel Carney, the son of a British diplomat, was born in Beiruit in 1944. He grew up in the Far East and was educated in England. He travelled extensively before settling in Rhodesia in 1963. After 3-1/2 years' service with the British South Africa Police, much of which was spent in remote areas of Rhodesia, he resigned and began to write. He turned the adventures and stories that he learned in the bush into the very successful novels The Whispering Death and The Wild Geese, both of which have been made into major films.

Daniel Carney is buried in the cemetery at St Catherine’s-in-the-Downs, Nyanga, in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe.
